The following details have been transcribed from the newspaper "Finn's Leinster Journal" on Wednesday, 18th November 1767 which can be found on micro film at County Carlow Library, Tullow Street, Carlow, Co Carlow IRELAND.

To JOHN HYDE Esq one of the Knights of the Shire for the County of Carlow.

SIR, we the Gentlemen and independent Freeholders of the said county take this early opportunity of congratulating you on your being elected a Knight of the Shire for said county in the room of your Father-in-Law the Right Hon. Benjamin Burton deceased Carlow, November 9, 1767.
