The Latrobe Valley
Model Aero Club is an incorporated club that was formed in 1972 and has approximately
60 members living in the area from Pakenham to Rosedale. Most of our club
members are into general sports flying although some club members do specialise
in other forms of model aircraft such as Gliding, Scale, Mammoth Scale, Old
Timer, Pylon Racing, Pattern & Helicopters.
Meetings - The club has monthly meetings at the
Latrobe Regional Airport on the 1st Wednesday of the every month
starting at 8.00pm . (LVAC Clubrooms)
Flydays - Official club flydays are Monthly at Lake
Narracan on the Sunday after the 1st Wednesday, Lake Narracan the
following Saturday and Warragul the next Sunday. Members may be found flying at
any of the club Flying Sites at any time and in any weather.(Please note it is
not always the 1st, 2nd & 3rd Sundays of
the month).
NOTE :There is model flying and no use of electric winches
for gliders at Lake Narracan and Warragul sites on days of TOTAL FIREBAN. All
of the LVMAC flying Sites are in the Eastern Fire Ban District !
Weekday flying - I usually try to get out to teach the
Retired or shiftwork fliers on either Thursday or Friday plus one day over the
weekend also, always at Lake Narracan, weather permitting.
Safety - The club has
a very good safety record and rules apply at all our flying sites. All engines
must have mufflers to keep the noise levels down. No
one should ever fly alone. It is very
easy to have an accident with a spinning prop, come across a snake or worse and
because our sites are isolated, help is not at hand unless you take someone
with you. Suitable clothing should be worn to protect yourself when walking in
the long grass and the Slip, Slop, Slap rule should always apply on hot, sunny
days.
New Pilots are not permitted to fly “solo” until they have passed the
Bronze Wings test and the use of restraints on all models, to stop a model
moving forward, is a club rule.
Visitors - We are quite happy for visitors to fly at our club
sites provided they are members of a VMAA or MAAA affiliated club and arrange
it with our Club Secretary if they are not with a club member.
