Energy Efficiency

Window Energy Rating
The Australasian Window Council Inc. (AWC) has
rated arange of typical windows for their energy efficiency and
performance in thermal insulation, noise and comfort.
Look for the WER rating sticker or ask about the rating of windows you
are installing.
Energy Rating for windows is here to stay. The federal government's Australian Greenhouse Office is helping to underwrite WERS as part of its commitment to improving energy efficiency and reducing greenhouse emissions from the built environment.
Home resale value, comfort and amenity is improved by the use of high-performance windows. Gone are the days when windows were just a commodity to be sold on price alone. In addition, WERS will be referenced by the Building Code of Australia.

5 Star Energy Rating
From July 2004, all new homes will need to
comply with 5-star energy regulations as prescribed in the Building Code
of Australia (BCA). This means that your new home must be:
1. 5-star energy rated for the building fabric; or
2. 4-star energy rated for the building fabric with water saving
measures and a solar hot water system; or
3. 4-star energy rated for the building fabric with water saving
measures and a rain water tank.
Windows form an important part of your building, and
as such are part of the Energy rating of your building.
The Energy Rating does not apply to renovations.
Please check the legislation before you proceed.
