Why was I speeding? ... Why? Was I speeding!?

Muh Bikes

This is some of the bikes that I have had over the years, there are some
that I have had that have escaped the camera....
The olde XJ650 Trubo ...
Despite being given a bum rap by the press this was an excellent touring bike. Loaded up with gear it'd happily cruise all day long at ova 120 Klicks and still only sip 23 Km/L!!
Ahhh ... the FJ1100. I racked up over 90,000 Km on this little beastie. I used to think that it handled OK too (until years later when I had my CBR1000 I took one fer a ride ... spoiled a perfectly good memory).
I think everyone who has a long term association with bikes thinks of owning one of these. They are the most practical reliable long term touring bike that that you could ever own. Mine carried me over many and varied roads fer about 2 years and 120,000Km. Even kept up with my scary mates on their VFR 750's (and was known to pull the odd wheelstand too :-). But I was wearing off the center stand and the pegs too so it was definitely time to moove on...
As soon as I took this little bike fer a ride I knew that the time was right to leave the olde faithful K100 for greener pastutres. The brakes, the precise steering ... GOD it was sensational ... I could suddenly ride to the edges of the tyres and still feel in control .... This was the beginning of a new way of reguarding bikes for me. Light tight and sharp was in!
So how come a GSX-R 750?? ... alas I decided to go back to Uni and complete my degree ... so I eventually whittled away at the bike I owned in search of more $$$. Having always wanted one of these I thought now was about the last time I was gonna get a goodie....
I'd always wanted to try the Ducati line, and wanted to get something light weight and simple. For me this was embodidied in the panther based 750 Sport. I had this bike for the longest of any of my bikes. I owned it from 1996 or so till 2003
Sometime in 2003, I started racking up larget miles in commuting, so I decided to get something that (I thought) would be less difficult to maintain, and more comfortable. The VFR is a wonderful bike, and after the Ducati, amazingly agile, and powerful. But it just wasn't as comfortable as I really wanted (commuting 150Km a day) so I thought I'd get something else ...
Which leads me to my XJR, my current bike. I like it a lot. Does not have the agility of the other bikes, but has LOTS of power, and makes the daily trip comfortable. The lack of a fairing has a benefit of keeping my speed down, but does mean I get wetter and colder than I'm used to getting on the other bikes. :-)
