Joensuu is (like so many towns in this part of Finland) on a lake, so there
is opportunity if you know someone with a boat to go out and see the place
from that perspective. You can see the hospital up there on the 'hill'. Someone
told me that they were worried during the war that it would make for an easy
target for Russian bombers.
While out on the lake there is some chance you can catch some fish too. I don't really like most of the fish that are caught in the lakes, though the really small ones are nice fried with breadcrumbs and butter.
I can't think of much more to say about the place, except that its nice to live there, although its a little more expensive than other towns. I expect that the University population of younger people keeps it higher in rent than other areas.
