Darwin on Trial
(2nd Edition)

From the back cover: "The theory of evolution is not based on fact but on faith - faith in philosophical naturalism. Phillip Johnson argues courageously that there simply is no vast body of empirical data supporting the theory."

A Scientific Dissent from Darwinism

By Duane | August 18, 2008

Is it true that scientists and academics are all agreed that evolution is a fact?

Check out the signatories who signed the following statement:

“We are skeptical of claims for the ability of random mutation and natural selection to account for the complexity of life. Careful examination of the evidence for Darwinian theory should be encouraged.”

The DNA Riddle?

By Duane | August 15, 2008

If it takes intelligence to solve a puzzle, then how much more to create it?

Calvin Smith demonstrates that the only rational explanation for DNA is to conclude that it was designed by a very clever designer.

Postmodern Posters

By Duane | August 14, 2008

[Originally posted: September 2007. Old comments still attached]

How do you falsify postmodernism? You make up posters that highlight the ludicrous ends one must go to take it seriously of course!

Over at Pyromaniacs, they have page after page of them littered throughout their blog, aimed mainly at an emerging church brand of postmodernity. Here are some of my favourites:

Infinity?

By Adam | August 6, 2008

Due to a recent discussion with Fluke on this Blog, I thought I’d post Theologian William Lane Craig’s answer as found in Lee Strobel’s Book “Case for a Creator”. William is a member of nine professional societies, including the American Philosophical Association, the Science and Religion Forum, The American Scientific Affiliation, and the Philosophy of Time Society. He currently is a research professor at the Talbot School of Theology.

Does Science Need Evolution?

By Duane | August 6, 2008

In criticizing a previously published article in the journal The Scientist, Avraham Sonenthal wrote,

The article calls evolution ‘the backbone of modern biology.’ I beg to disagree. No product, discovery, medical procedure, or advance has come out of evolutionary theory. Without evolutionary theory, all practical biology would stand just as it is. No major corporation has a ‘Department of Evolution’ because scientists who have to produce results don’t use it.

In fact, I would like to challenge the readership of this publication to come up with one practical application of biology that would have been impossible were it not for the hypothesis of evolution. [I wonder if any of them did?]

In the meantime, I think that scientists should leave the important questions, such as what is the meaning of life and is there a God, to religion, which knows how to answer such questions, and stick to what they know how to do, such as breeding insect-resistant corn and curing cancer.

Forcing Morality

By Duane | August 5, 2008

In May, 1994, the American Congress passed a law making it a federal offense to block an abortion clinic. Pamela Maraldo, President of Planned Parenthood at the time commented to the press,

“This law goes to show that no one can force their viewpoint on someone else.”

The self-contradiction ought to be obvious: All laws force someone’s viewpoint.

Is Christianity Right and Other Views Wrong?

By Duane | August 2, 2008

If you think it is possible for all religions to be right, then you need to think again. If you’re an atheist then you probably think all of them are wrong. At least you and I have something in common when it comes to the latest postmodern trends.

But as Greg Koukl often points out, really smart people make really silly mistakes when it comes to thinking about religion in general and the claims of Christianity in particular.

Fulangibutoombalacka

By Duane | July 27, 2008

“You know for someone who doesn’t swear much anymore, you sure do say friggen, freakin’, flamin’, arse and darn a lot.” My wife kindly brought this to my attention recently. And here I was becoming prideful of the improvement in my language over the years.
